Book Meme

ONOZ!

I got tagged!

[info]maryrobinettetagged me with the book meme. I will play along. ;)
I think I'll even tag some folk...

Here are your rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people and post a comment to [info]maryrobinette(your tagees will post to mine, etc.) once you've posted your three sentences.

I have just wrapped up reading Frank Herbert's Dune. It's the 40th Anniversary (oversized) TPB Edition. I have plenty of other books nearby, all within hand's reach --- but I don't think sentences from a Dreamweaver (website software) instruction manual are too terribly interesting:

Book One, DUNE

"It was the chance they took, Soor, " the Dune man said.

"My Lord, " said Kynes , "these men know it's of little use to do anything about men trapped on the desert in worm country."

"We'll send a ship from the base for them!" the Duke snapped.

I am tagging:

Thanks for making that suggestion!
I started re-reading a book that I bought from a used book store in 1997 that started a long admiration for Stephen Brust: It is 'Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grill'

Re: Thanks for making that suggestion!
I've never read it. Sounds like a Space-Comedy?

Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grill
Then he connected the sirens to the fight they'd had and took off in earnest.

"I'm afraid I killed him," said Jamie, but so softly Tip didn't hear him. He didn't repeat it aloud, or really, to himself, either.

I could go on forever about how much I love Dune (the first book, specifically). It is, IMO, one of the all time greats of forever in the SF genre. I think it should be taught in high schools and colleges, and every time I read it, I come away with something I never caught or noticed before.

I shall have to do this meme once I am home with actual books around me. :) The only thing near at hand here at work is the phone book.

As I told mimkeki... I too owe you one act of meme-sheepery. I don't normally give in for these, but I like this one.
